I have an ATrend ATA-N400-CXO 440BX mother board with the Intel PIII 800 CPU, running Windows 98. I have a new install of Windows. I currently have 256meg of memory which is two sticks of PC100 128meg dimm. Everything works OK until I try to install another PC100 128meg memory stick. The computer will find the memory at 393216k, 384 meg. which is correct. I can run "DocMemory" tester and it will show the memory OK.
The problem is I cannot boot into Windows with this memory. I can remove any one of the three dimms, with slots O and 1 filled and Windows will boot up OK. I receive the error "Windows Protection Error. You Need to Restart Your Computer". You can restart and each time it will give the same error. I have removed all cards from the mother board except for the Video Card (Creative Labs PCI, 32 meg), remove
d the cables from all IDE except for Drive 0, and Keyboard and tried it. Did not help.
I can also Add "MaxPhysPage=10000" which limits the memory under windows to 256meg, to the SYSTEM.INI file and windows will booot up oK. If I increase the size the 256meg, no go.
This is my first post. I have been reading these listing for a long time. I will really apprecate any and all help.
