Yeah, this didn't make any sense to me either. I just don't
believe that leaving the drive unpowered, but plugged into
the controller cable could nuke the disk.
Of course, Noel's the guy with the dead disk, so I guess
anything's possible, but I really have to believe that is was
an unfortunate coincidence, rather than cause and effect.
I'm planning to do a clean install on an old machine in the
next little while. Maybe I'll try the experiment myself, when
the stakes are low.
