Bob;
I am running a webramp M3 router www.webramp.com on my network at
home,
It allows up to 3 modems at one time. They hook
straight to the webramp instead of the computer.
The only problem is you can't combine modems
on a single task, they work independently.
You also will need not only another phone line,
but another dialup account.
My ISP allows me a dual dialup for additional $5 a mo.
so I can log in twice on separate phone lines.
if I remember right Diamond has a technology that combines modems
called "shotgun"
here is a URL with info http://www.wt.net/WT.net/shotgun.htm
I live in the boonies of Idaho about 7 miles from Telco.
I have been looking into www.starband.com
2 way satellite. but it's still a little pricey for me:-)

So, why can't I put 2 modems on my system? I have a 3Com win modem now
and it works very well. It is plugged into a PCI slot and I have lots
of other open PCI slots that other modems could fit in.. I also have
another phone line that I can use..
