Hi guys, have been following this group for a few weeks now. Can I please
introduce you to my latest issue.
I have a PIII 800 MHz computer based around an ABIT motherboard with 256MB
of RAM running Windows 2000 since last few weeks. Previously on NT4.
Have just stumbled across an article in a UK PC magazine - PCWorld - which
implies that Win2k and UDMA 100 are not compatible. I followed the article
and checked my IDE Channel Properties in Control
Panel\System\Hardware\Device Manager\IDEA/ATAPI controller.
Unsurprisingly I am apparently running PIO instead of Ultra DMA, and I am
using the correct ribbon cable and a 100Mhz Western Digital hard Drive - I
believe that the PIO connection is 16.6Mb instead of the hoped for 100Mb .
Any thougts, ideas welcome.
Hope and trust that I am following the correct protocols - please advise if
not
