Hi everyone,

Recently I put in a new soundcard into an I.B.M. Activia 500 mhz, 128 ram
with windows 98.

The problem is that in the first place why I replaced the soundcard which
was already in there was that there was a very bad scraping sound coming
from the speakers when you turned them up. I then tried to use the
microphone in sound recorder and the resulting file was terrible with the
scraping sound overriding my voice.
I should add that before I could make a voice file I would have to go into
volume controls and "uncheck the mute mice checkbox". It's like the
soundcard a "pci" card keeps muting the mic in with the bargain. I have
tried various settings and even removed the modem pci card just to see if it
would help but it didn't.
I would really like to use it with a mic and have thought about purchasing
another card but am afraid I will still have the problem.

Can anyone give me some suggestions or possible reasons for why it's
behaving like this.

Paul Traynor.
