I guess one could substitute "Clinton-haters" for "Clinton-lovers" in the
sentence above, and it would in fact be more to the point. One of the things
us non-american outsiders have the most problems understanding about U.S.
politics is why so many people actually believe there is a real difference
between republican and democratic policy, and that Clintonism is somehow on
the "progressive" side of the spectrum.
And the farce goes on year after year without people getting disillusioned
or doubtful. If the ignorance didn't kill hundreds of thousands of people it
would almost be amusing.
My own view, by the way, happens to coincide with that of Chomsky himself.
If the rulings of the Nürnberg trials should be allowed to set the standard,
every president of the United States since WW2 would hang for their crimes
against humanity. (Oh yeah, maybe I should add that I - unlike for instance
Bill Clinton - don't approve of the death penalty.)
