All over the country, historic graveyards are under threat
from neglect, vandalism, theft, and development pressues.
Michigan surely is no exception to this. However, unlike
many other states, Michigan lacks a historic cemetery
preservation advocacy organization.
The new "michcem" email group is intended to be a conversation
about this. What are the biggest threats to Michigan historic
cemeteries? What cemeteries are in danger NOW, and what can
we do to help? What can Michigan learn from other states'
efforts to preserve graveyards? Is there a need for state
or local legislation to protect cemeteries and burial sites?
If you have an interest in these issues, please come join us.
