Dear Group:
I have a Display Adapter problem. My OS is Windows 95. If you need
more system information, I shall be happy to furnish such.
My web pages, both text and graphics look as if they are in SAFE. Some
background info might be helpful here. Several weeks ago, a computer
person was attempting to resurrect my CD drive (since replaced and is
working fine). During this process, he did something to "upset" my
display adapter. A display adapter error message kept coming up. At
the same time, another error message said that my Earthlink Toolbar was
missing. So I installed Earthlink's 5.0 CD thinking to correct the
display adapter and toolbar problems as well as upgrade. Big mistake.
Many problems. With Earthlink's help, I was able to fix all problems
but the display adapter one.
I am running on the Standard Display Adapter (VGA). Device Usage is
Original Configuration (Current), Hardware Version 001. Driver files:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\vga.drv.
File version: Microsoft 4.00.950.
No conflicts in Resources. HOWEVER, I have the weak graphics and text
and No Sound. Diamond Stealth 3D 2000 Pro (Turbo) is compatible with my
hardware. I have the Creative Ensonig Audio PCI CD. DMDISP.INF is
missing from this CD. I have located DMDISP.INF on my system but am
lost after that.
As soon as Diamond Stealth is loaded into the system, there is a
conflict in Resources. The S3 driver is needed. There is a conflict in
Resources as soon as Diamond and S3 appear together. (S3 being in
conflict.) I have removed the Standard Display Adapter (VGA) over and
over. It always pops up at boot-up so it must be a default adapter.
Because of my limited technical knowledge, I am afraid to eliminate it
entirely. I am somewhat convinced that some of the problem is in
Resources. It would appear from all of my checking that I need to undo
the Automatic Fix (since that hasn't helped) and manually change the
configurations. I am loathe to do this since I might disturb Plug and
Play. All of this trepidation is due to my lack of technical
knowledge. I need guidance!
With the Standard Display Adapter, I have only a choice of monochrome or
16 colors. It does not even show 256 colors. It will not permit me to
use the slide. 640 by 480 pixels.
I have called Creative and Diamond but no help there. So, I hope that
PC Build can help me.
Thank you.
