So if Harry Francis reckons the great lime mortar
joints of the past were achieved by using lime which
had been slaked in soil pits for several months so as
to ensure a nice, uniform, 'fat' putty ...

... who is going to start producing this commercially,
because there isn't much soil around most restoration
jobs to allow a pit to be dug, let alone left slaking
for several months?

Or is there really a modern alternative that I've
missed in all the postings recently?
