Concerning restoring older registry version....
For us Win 95 users (voluntary or involuntary) who need this rollback
function, I would recommend the program ERS 9x. It has saved my butt
several times as I like to try new software (too much!). It will create 7
registry backups, one each day when you start your computer or on a
schedule if you leave your computer on all the time, or you can create up
to 3 other backups manually before installing new programs or hardware. It
will also will keep a backups of other Windows files.

You will get an option letting you pick which
version of your registry you want to restore.
Usually, there are 5. Restore a version from
before the new installs and see if that doesn't
let you boot.
