First off I want to thank everyone who gave advice on my previous posts.
I am not quite there yet and I think that the motherboard is the problem. I will explain that conclusion in a bit. I have been trying to load windows 98 se on a harddrive with no success. The test that would make me confident enough in my new setup. I am trying to load this on a computer that has a minimal setup.
Product specs:
Gigabyte GA-7IX with Award BIOS
800 MHZ Athlon CPU
256k PC-100 SDRAM
1 1.44 Floppy Drive
1 CD-ROM
1 1.2 gig H.D.
1 300 watt power supply
1 Diamond Stealth 64 PCI video card
I have tried varing combinations of RAM from 32k to 256k and everything in between. I have tried 3 different cd-rom drives, 3 floppy drives, 2 power supplies, 2 different copies of windows one of which is brand new. I have flashed the bios to the latest version. I don't have an extra athlon cpu to try or an extra slot A motherboard. I have been searching the internet to get info on problems related with this board boy has it received some harsh critisim. I have tried changing the bios settings from fail-safe to optimized to my own custom. The results are the same I will get the following error messages:
Invalid type font detected
An application used a true type font that caused an error in windows. Quit all applications and the restart windows.
Application Error
W98SETUP caused a General Protection Fault in module USER.EXE at oo1:a6c4
Application Error
SUWIN caused a segment load failure in module suwin.exe at 0002.6ca9
Althou the message ends may vary slightly it is always one of the three. It does not matter which copy of win 98 I use. There is the possibility that this may be the harddrive but I don't know why it would be. So after using different ram and different floppies different cd-roms, different power supplies. I think it might be BIOS or motherboard related simply due to process of elimination. I tried to go to the IBM website that would give me the program to test the hardrive integrity but the program is to large to fit on a floppy. Some ideas on where to go from here would be helpful and what the heck do those error messages mean. Also the one weird thing on the bios the memorey check on the BIOS still goes through 2 times for each RAM chip no matter which one I use I wondering if this ties in at all.
