I was looking into this the other day. It stands for Audio Modem Riser.
The AMR is a riser card that supports sound or modem function. Because CPU
computing power is getting stronger, the digital processing job can be
implemented in main chipset and share CPU power.
So you can can buy one card that will handle your audio and modem.
Reminds me of some of the older Packard Bell computers
with the audio/modem on one card. A cheaper way to design and build pc
systems. However with this AMR slot you don't have to use it. You can still
use your PCI / ISA slots for a sound card or a modem card! :-)
