cashews are not actually nuts, but seeds of the cashew apple, a
custardy
oval fruit. the seed [a cashew] hangs in a dark shell at the bottom
of
the fruit. it's really cool looking. just one to a fruit, as far as
i've seen. the shell or skin has some sort of 'poisonous' substance
that is negated by heating the seed to get the skin off. they only
come that way.
