Any help or understanding what a TSR file is would be
greatly appreciated.

A TSR stands for 'terminate and stay resident'. It
refers to DOS programs that remain in memory all the
time once they are loaded. Things like Calendar
programs, spell checkers, calculators and notepads are
usually set up as TSR's so that you can access them
from within another program. Hot keys are usually set
up for these TSR's so that you can invoke the program
by just pressing a certain key sequence from within
any program. Take note that TSR's are not necessary
with multitasking operating systems such as Windows,
MacOS or OS/2.
