I am in the Auto business and we use ADP computer systems, much the same as
Reynolds & Reynolds, we have dumb terminals, all hooked to a mainframe in
office. It is UNIX based system, However I have a PC on my desk and
Reflections Software to run the UNIX ADP in windows. Most of this is going
to go the way of the PC, it is an old system, however the mechanics have a
terminal in their work areas to record what they did on what car to flag
hours, the day of the paper repair order is gone and they do not need a PC,
the day of paper is gone all is "electronic paper" Lord help us when the
power goes out, you have to come back and pay later. Same in the sales end,
we do all our transactions on dumb terminals which log and stores the
transaction on the main computer, allowing another person involved in deal
to retrieve the information for billing etc.. We are going to PC's soon as
the manufactures are having their own online systems & programs.

Have a new client that would like me to setup one full machine and two
