Important, certainly, but not everything.
A program on animal emotion on PBS showed a troupe of baboons and the
psychological intimidation that the dominant male exerts merely by
loitering near potential mating pairs. Often the subordinate male will
get the hint and walk away.
The point: subordinate male baboons in the wild can suffer so much
psychological stress that they develop peptic ulcers, hardening of the
arteries, and heart disease. So much for Mother Nature's endowment of
perfect health.
