The fact that one joke sparked so much discussion awhile ago reminded me that
humor is a great survival tactic for PWDs..especially self deprecating
humor..I have a story that proves my point.
I was in charge of planning my 15 yr high school reunion. We decided to charge
$20 a person..4 people called & said they couldn't attend the dinner , but
would be there later that evening. We decided it was only fair to charge them
$7 a person since the picnic , postage & printing were also covered by the
fee we collected. It was my job to go up & ask a classmate's spouse for the
$14.He said , "I need to get change.Where will you be ? I'll bring it to
you." To which I replied, " Rick, I don't walk like anyone else in the
room..You can't miss me." I turned & saw his wife's jaw drop to the floor. She
couldn't believe I said that because she had witnessed the teasing I got in
grade school! Neither could anyone else when I told them the story. I learned
that the ability to laugh at myself ..or to laugh at anything is a GREAT
survival technique..Life is too short to be serious all the time.
