I'm not familiar with Dell's numbering system but since you've got 98SE,
you're likely to have USB (universal serial bus) ports too, probably two of
them.

USB adapter to serial plug   for the Palm
DragonSpeaking (and maybe others) has a USB microphone

     and, then forget about that old legacy serial port!!!!!!!!!!

when you get more than two USB appliances, buy a hub, usually 4- or 7-port
available.
then you can add and add and add.......up to 127 different gizmos; and more
are coming out daily---printers, scanners, speakers, joysticks, mice,
keyboards, cameras, etc.

I'm on my second 7-port hub!!!     And, did I mention?   NO (or very
little) CONFIGURATION needed!!!!!!
Go to your favorite on-line shopping site and search for USB; you'll be
amazed!!!!!
