In all practcal purposes xDSL(in this case ADSL-Aysymetric Digital Subcriber
Line) is faster than Cable because you do
not have to share bandwith with the people in your neghborhood.

If your in an area where they're are a lot of people that are using a cable
modem they're will be bog downs, expecially during peak times. This is
where DSL would be handy, but unlike cable with DSL you have to be within 3
cable miles of the Central Office.

A prime example is when Century Cable now Adephia introduced @Home last year
in Huntington,WV (accross from where I live), everyone got on at the same
time, and they're was a major constraint on bandwith. Now Bell Atlantic has
introduced DSL in this City. Due to the fact I'm on GTE they probably won't
have it for another couple of years.

At least in my area where Armstrong Cable Services(www.netacs.net) is now
offering cable modem access, their provider is independent from @home.
I currently am using the 500K Down / 256 K Up plan. I'm getting from the
good servers between 35 to 45K/sec with 50K peaks. I do plan to try their
1.5Mbps/500K plan after I'm sure they have all the kinks worked out of the
system. Luckly this is the appex in the upgrades to the CATV lines. Along
w/ Coax they've ran Fiber Optic to each of the node boxes. So they should
have plenty of Bandwith for the future. And since this area is rural
they're shouldn't be any major slowdowns, as what has happened with @Home.
