You can get creams or patches at good health food stores. There are many
brands, and some do contain only plant-based precursors, for which efficacy
is doubtful. The brand I use has USP natural progesterone, but doesn't say
where it comes from. The "bible" on this treatment is "What Your Doctor May
NOT Tell You About Menopause" by Dr. John R. Lee, and it lists the various
products and their relative strengths.
My research leads me to believe that long-term natural progesterone use is
safe and effective. Anecdotally, I have used it for a couple of years, am
well past menopause now, and found that it did balance moods, counteract
what I perceive to be symptoms of excess (unopposed by progesterone)
estrogen, and reverse atrophy of sexual parts. I consider it an appropriate
and natural part of my quest for long and healthy life. Aging in any form
does not particularly attract me; it's not the years, it's what I want to
do with them.
