When I was a teen back in the 70's and a devout vegetarian, they had an
article out about a man who claimed plants could feel pain. He even claimed
they "screamed" but we couldn't hear it. My Father (fed up with my
vegetarian eating habits) would really chastise me for being a plant
murderer at the dinner table. Told me I was a ruthless killer, ripping up
those carrots from the garden and eating them still alive! LOL! I didn't
appreciate it then, but now I love his sense of humor and irony.
