Careers in Historic Preservation
Would someone be so kind as to provide a sample (or comprehensive, if
available) list of the types of jobs or careers one can obtain in the field
of historical preservation?
Thank you.

------------------------------Dear Donna ;
I thought this over and decided it would or could take all night...
.then I thought the easy thing to do would be to go to Traditional building
magazine and go through all the advt.on the back pages
this would give you a career base in sheer numbers of craftsmen and
professions
.that claim or have some history in this field
.then contact a building and (house) conservator
and list what areas of expertise regarding preservation he could offer
technically and the individuals qualified to do or the expertise of each
task..
; without counting my guess is about 50-100 professions.Throw in qualified
plumbers and duct men that know historic buildings and bump the number
up.Don't forget the office people that make up the Architectual ; Town
historian Archival and Library management teams not to mention owners reps
and fund raising teams
And if you want to see them all at once under one roof go Yale this summer.
They are proving the old "rats in a shoe box" test to see who can survive as
the fittest preservationist
Lastly you may want to ask Ralph about all this.....He sings a country
western song that goes something like this
"Momma's don't let your babies grow up an be preservationists...don't let em
ride scaffolds and drive them ol trucks..Let em be stock brokers an senators
and such" ..Good luck Michael
