This is normal, the game CD is playing the sound internally, it doesn't need to be connected to the sound card.

Last time I encountered this it was a faulty sound card. You can connect the sound cable to the burner and see if it plays. If it does your CD reader audio out is bad. If it doesn't, it could
very well be the sound card. Of course you can try uninstalling the sound card and installing it again.
