Lucia,
I used a diet by Dr Bernstein and tested my blood sugar 5(or more)
times a
day while I was diagnosed as being gestational diabetic. Like Atkins,
Bernstein advocates a very low carbohydrate diet, which is high
protein. I
ate most of my protein in the form of raw meat, I ate some cooked
chicken,
some soy. I found that I needed more vegetables than recommended and
ended
up with a diet more like the one suggested by Dr Diana Schwarzbein.
I would recommend Bernstein's book for information on sugar balancing
and
instructions on how and when to test your blood sugar. Dr Schwarzbein
does
have a diet recommended for vegetarian's that may interest your
husband. I
would continue the raw practice of avoiding salt, sugar, and additives
of
any type. I would also avoid heated fats and oils.
Glad you are feeling better.
Micaela
