The Long Island Center for Independent Living in New York has set
up a Medicare/Medicaid Legislative Committee to streamline the
Medicare/Medicaid approval process.  The process of getting
Medicare/Medicaid to approve motorized wheelchairs and other
durable medical equipment and supplies is EXTREMELY frustrating.
Too frequently medically necessary equipment and supplies are
denied by Medicare and/or Medicaid.  We, at LICIL, are working
with disabled consumers, vendors, federal and state legislators
to rewrite the law and make it easier for people with
disabilities to obtain the durable medical equipment and supplies
you need.  But we need input from YOU, the disabled consumers!

LICIL needs you, the disabled consumer, to call or E-mail us with
your Medicare and Medicaid horror stories.  What problems have
you had getting Medicare or Medicaid to approve the durable
medical equipment or supplies you need?  We can take your
testimony in letters, by phone or on video tape.  But we need you
to call us now!  Only you can show the legislators in Albany, NY
and in Washington how the crazy Medicare and Medicaid regulations
are wreaking havoc with your life.
