In regards to Tums as a calcium supplement  we were advised a few years
ago (by a naturopath and a conventional M.D.) to avoid them like the
plague.  Because Tums reduces stomach acid (which is necessary for the
proper digestion of our food) it is not a good idea for anyone, but
particularily for allergic folks, to use them on  a regular basis.
