I configure Win95/98 machines to NT servers using the following approach,
and, with the least number of entries/changes. I am assuming your network
card is installed and working (you can use ipconfig and ping to test the
setup).

1. Make sure the workgroup name in win95/98 is the domain name of your
network.
2. Make sure TCP/IP is installed.
3. Go to the properties for the network card TCP/IP configuration.
3a. Disable DNS configuration.
3b. Leave gateway blank - NO entries.
3c. Disable WINS resolution.
3d. If you are using DHCP at the NT end, select 'Obtain an IP address
automatically, otherwise enter a valid static IP address.
4.Make sure you have installed ' file and printer sharing'.
5.Reboot. Under 'my computer' , select (right click) the hard drive, etc one
at a time and enable 'sharing' of the drives/directories/files. I do not
find it necessary to 'map drives' - I can just as easily access the remote
drives under 'Network Neighbourhood'.

That's it. You are done. If you are not using tcp/ip, then let me know and
we can go through the netbueui setup. You will note that networking WIN95/98
requires a lot fewer entries than NT/Wrkstn. This reflects on the minimal
security of Win95/98 compared to NT.

One final note, you can either setup login scripts (on the NT server) for
each user id, or just login to WIN95 with the Admin user id, depending on
your needs.

Good luck,
Dharam
