A LICIL WORKSHOP ON EXPLORING INTIMACY

Levittown, NY Bob Mauro, author of Finding Love and Intimacy and How To
Live Longer With A Disability, will be the facilitator of a three-part
workshop on love, sex and disability. Called "Exploring Intimacy," Bob's
workshop will be held at the offices of The Long Island Center for
Independent Living, Inc. The three-part workshop, beginning on April 25,
2000, will explore how to enjoy intimacy despite one's disability.
Participants should be ready to participate in a lively, frank discussion
of the subject. Sessions will be held once a month for three consecutive
months, April 25, May 30, and June 27, 2000. Each session will be an
hour long, from 2:30 to 3:30.
In session one, we will discuss love in all its different forms.
Together, participants will explore just how important love is in all of
our lives. Session two will be about how to start and maintain an
intimate relationship despite one's disability. We will talk about how
and where to meet people. How initial impressions can affect a
relationships. And why we should put our best face forward. Session
three will be about enjoying intimacy safely despite one's disability.
Are sex, love, and intimacy different or the same? What can one do to
increase one's enjoyment in an intimate relationship, even if one is
significantly disabled? What if one of you is more disabled than the
other? What if one of you is not disabled? How does self-esteem affect
one's ability to love?
To register for this free, frank three-part workshop, contact LICIL at
516-796-0144 voice or 796-0135 TDD. Space is limited, so register early!
If you're already involved in an intimate relationship, please join us!
You might have advice for those who are not yet involved in one.
