I have used both types of memory in the same board, but the manuals stated
which bank  to be used,  such as bank one slot one and two of simms to be
used in conjunction with slot 2 of dimm and also make sure your voltage
setting is set correctly.   It has been awhile since I used both but it
worked for me.
