I just came from the Soyo site, and on their FAQ pages, they were talking
about this... They said to disable DMA. "Possibly?" on both the CD-ROM
and the hard drives... http://www.soyo.com.tw/faq/ideburner.htm
Note: Following their instructions will generally slow down the system
for any hard drive access. Removing the busmaster drivers is sometimes
hard to reverse... I have not tried this. Proceed at your own risk.

Here is what they say at Soyo... (I would look at your MB WEB site.)
>Why does my IDE CD-Writer not work properly?
>This problem is very likely caused by the DMA setting being enabled. Make sure that DMA is not enabled by taking the following
steps:
>If you are using an Intel chipset board, the support for DMA has to be switched off in Windows. Follow these steps to disable DMA:
>
>a. Click the 'Start' button.
>b. Select 'Settings' and then 'Control Panel'.
>c. Now double click the 'System' icon and go to the 'Device Manager' Tab.
>d. Select 'Disk Drives' from the list and double click 'Generic IDE Devices'.
>e. Now select the 'settings' Tab and in the 'options' section, and make sure that DMA is disabled.
>
>Note that if there is no mention of DMA on the 'settings' Tab, this means that it is already enabled. If you have for instance
installed Bus Master >Drivers the DMA option will disappear from the Tab.
>
>To disable the busmaster drivers for a non-Intel chipset, go to the control panel and select add/remove programs. Select the
busmaster >drivers (if listed) and remove them.
>Having disabled DMA should solve the problem with your IDE CR-ROM writer.
