In the movie, cast in Balto., somebody fills up a car with concrete. This
actually happened, and is part of the oral history of ready mix concrete. I
used to work for the old Harry T. Campbell & Sons Company, who produced ready
mixed concrete in Balto. I was told this story about 10 years before "Tin
Men" was produced. One of the drivers was suspicious of his wife, who he
thought was carrying on with a salesman. One day, he drove down his block as
a side trip on the way to make a delivery, and saw the salesman's convertible
parked near his house. So he stopped and filled it up with concrete. As I
understand it, he had to be fired, but nobody had the disrespect to charge
him for the concrete.
