You can rule out the fans by manually stopping their rotation and listening
for resultant changes in sound/noise. For the CPU fan, just put your finger
in the hub and stop it briefly at a time when the noise is occurring. For
the power supply, try using a straw or some other suitable object that can
reach the blades of the fan to stop it and yet not be so firm as to damage
the (relatively) soft plastic of the blades. If the bad noise goes away,
you've probably found the culprit. I've found many more bad fans than hard
drives that cause noise- both on the CPU and in the P/S.   TTYL-  HTH & ATB
