Digesting the digest

Can someone tell me how the digest works with regard to:

1. Responding to an issue and keeping the subject reference. I.E.
"Facade Cleaning" becomes "Re: Facade Cleaning", so I and networkers
know that the posting is a follow-up to that issue. Do you have to
cut and paste the Address and the subject from the digest? That's
just a little more trouble than just hitting the "Reply" button.

2. I tend to read almost every new entry, hoping that it really is
news, but skipping the banter that follows a subject I'm not too
interested in signified, "Re: Inanity" . The digest doesn't seem to
differentiate a new entry from the response entry.

3. Please remind me...What time of day does the digest get issued?
How do I subscribe?
