Hi,
 There's nothing wrong with the idea, but you should have modest
training from a book or video tape before getting started. Also, a
reliable source for the toner/developer at a good price $4 - $12US.
In any case, it's a 20 minute procedure with the right tools (toner
vac/new seal/extractor) or a unbelievably messy experience for anyone
just experimenting.

 Whatever you do, don't reuse old toner. Toner has magnetic properties
generated from a triboelectric (static/friction) charge to aid in
generating the latent image on a photoconductive drum. Old toner lacks
these properties and tend to be inconsistent at best and generate toner
spills with related problems.

A better option is to purchase a refilled/recharged cartridge from a
reseller. There's enough competition for this to find one with an
excellent replacement warranty at an affordable price. Contrary to
claims, I've yet to find a refilled that's better than the original.
So, this is a case where you get what you pay for.
