Oh these technical discussions are fascinating, especially to think that
someone could study such a phenomenon and become expert on it.  I remember
these fringes around the windshield in early '70s cars too.  Some were gold,
some were silver.  Others were multicolored.  Often one could see a Grateful
Dead skull hanging from the mirror too.  And decals on the glass as well.
