Well, I feed a family of five for $500 a month, organically.

If I was alone I figure I could squeak by with $5.71 a day. You could eat a third of a dozen eggs in the morning (1.50/dozen, organic) with one sausage (3.00/package containing 7sausages @ .40each). That makes breakfast less than a dollar. Then figure one pound of meat, maybe ground turkey made into burgers @ 1.79/lb. plus an apple @ .50each which gives you a $2.29 lunch. Now you've got a $2.42 dinner which could be two pieces of lamb, 1/2 lb. ground beef, organic, or small piece of salmon plus the veggie of choice like asparagus, salad (free if you have a garden), collards(cheap! cheap!), etc........

I buy from a food co-op and get great prices on food because I buy by the case. Often the local grocery store's prices are higher than the organic stuff from FORC. I especially enjoy berries and have read that blueberries are not sprayed so I buy them from Food Lion frozen. They go a long way. Other than that I don't eat much fruit (the above apple was simply an example). The greens work for me since I have a history of hypoglycemia.

I think the only way for you to eat paleo cheaply is to do it and find your own tricks. Costco and Sam's Clubs are great for super inexpensive raw nuts (in the baking isle), i.a. $5.00 for three pounds!!!!

Cooking this way is a freaking breeze. Just meat and a veggie (or not)!!!!!

Good luck,

Beth

p.s. someone mentioned having a new baby. My two bits on that is NURSE UNTIL THE CHILD WEANS ITSELF!!!! Unless pushed or coerced to wean, a human child will normally cease to desire to suck the breast at about four-five years old. Some exceptions go earlier or later. My seven year old took her last sip about eight months ago. Sounds freaky, huh? Well, not really. The international age of weaning is 4.5 years (can't remember the source, sorry). And remember, all the American mothers who only nurse for two weeks are counted in that average, pulling it down.......
