It amazes me how most Americans understand that a government which
doesn't let people cross the border OUT of its country is violating the
basic human right people have to move freely on the planet of their
birth, yet can't understand that a govenrment which doesn't let people
cross the border INTO its country is violating exactly the same right!

This is true what you say about most Americans, JJ. They are exposed
to an endless amount of propaganda where La Migra is always saving
half-dead Border crossers from the 'bad-bad' people trying to smuggle
them into the US. US immigration are always shown as the heroes in
this BS line.
What's even worse is that the US has Mexico doing their dirty work for
them half the time. Below is an example of what this resuts

At least 22 Guatemalans drown off Mexico - report
16 Jul 2000 20:54
MEXICO CITY, July 16 (Reuters) - At least 22 Guatemalans hoping to
migrate to the United States in search of a better life drowned off
Mexico's southeastern coast of Oaxaca, the newspaper Reforma reported on
Sunday.
The accident occurred on Thursday night when a strong wave capsized a
motorboat carrying some 22 to 25 people, mainly poor peasants, the daily
said. Two women and two children were among the dead.
The boat set out from the port of Rincon Juarez in Guatemala on
Wednesday and was headed for Santa Maria del Mar in Oaxaca, from where
the migrants planned to travel to the United States, justice authorities
were quoted as saying.
There was only one survivor. The bodies of the first 18 migrants found
were buried on Saturday, Reforma said.
