The tantalising mystery of the tainted titanium ...
Media reports from August 2000:
http://inq.philly.com/content/inquirer/2000/08/25/front_page/BILBAO25.htm
... and January 2001:
http://www.cnn.com/2001/STYLE/design/01/11/spain.guggenheim.reut/
Both reports seem to suggest that the public
explanation is heading towards a problem with soiling
and lack of cleaning ... which may well be close to
the truth.
I have had peripheral involvement in the past on a
problem with discolouration on polished stainless
steel cladding atop a 60+ storey office tower ... and
the conclusion was localised corrosion staining
developing around atmospheric deposition (read dust or
soiling).
Cheers
