Ralph,

Some parts of Pennsylvania are a lot further south than one might realize
from a reading of scholarly texts, or a quick interstate drive accross the
state.  The Shanandoal Valley was settled by people from Pennsylvania just
moving on to the south and west.  Listen closely, look closely at the
architecture.

But beyond that, it jus sounds neat and it annoys Philadelphians.
