Worse case things are like: too well sealed the building to prevent water
penetration and people could not breath in building (unverified street gossip
about a project I cannot mention on BP) or windows not sealed well enough and
water ran into the computers. Usually when it starts to go wrong it gets
stopped early on and does not become a major disaster. People inside
buildings freak when they suddenly see that the building envelope is not
inviolable.

Time of year is important. Not good to put a lot of water into the masonry if
you are expecting a freeze.

Main problem w/ water mist/spray cleaning is NYC DEP requires that if any
water is sprayed on a building that the run-off has to be diverted into the
building's drainage system, and not into the street or storm sewer,
regardless of use of chemicals or not.

Technical question: do you repoint before or after cleaning? If you repoint
before then it helps to keep water out. Do you repoint onto dirty masonry? A
solution: point up to 3/4" depth from the surface prior to cleaning then come
back and finish the pointing after the cleaning. Higher cost for making
second access to work location, site logistics, rigging costs, time to travel
up and down the wall. Second question: how many people out there really care
to worry about water penetration, at least before it hits the papers on their
desk, and what is the overall impact on the building stock of not caring?
