This is absolutely brainstorming, but I know that Thomas Jefferson had a
whole lotta way cool stuff built into Monticello and Poplar Grove...I'm
familiar with the levitating bed; I wonder if he had any pocket doors....  I
wouldn't be surprised, and it would predate the dates you indicate.  But
it's up to you to research that one, if you wanna.
