.......... asked about PIN!

We are planning some new things (events, articles, etc.) over the next few
months, and we'll keep everyone updated. But, for those who are new to BP,
here is some background (snatched from our fabulous brochure):

HOW PIN BEGAN — Preservation Industry Network (PIN) originated in 1995 as a
loosely organized group of members of the Association for Preservation
Technology International (APTI) in the New York metropolitan area. In 1997,
PIN became a task force of APTI.

Since then, PIN has become a positive force in the economic growth of the
preservation industry by facilitating an informed and inclusive dialogue
among all segments of the industry both inside the United States and abroad.

Here's what PIN does:

-OUTREACH — PIN is working to expand preservation constituencies by
attracting related trades and businesses that do not necessarily regard
themselves as participants in historic preservation or APTI.

-INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE — PIN is working to expand the exchange of technical
information and preservation expertise among nations. It has already laid the
groundwork for an ongoing relationship between Poland and the United States,
marked by visits to each country by a delegation of preservation specialists
from the other.

-COMMUNICATION — PIN is working to facilitate communication both within the
preservation industry and from preservationists to the world at large.

-NETWORKING — PIN is working to provide networking opportunities —
workshops, site visits, and social events — that allow specialists from the
diverse preservation disciplines to develop friendships and a better
understanding of the important role that each plays in historic preservation
projects.

-TRADES — PIN is working to foster a better working relationship, and
greater respect between preservation design professionals and specialists in
the trades and crafts of traditional building.
