If you have something listed in Device Manager
under Ports that has a question mark, delete all
LPT ports (or parallel ports) from Device Manager
using the "remove" button.

Reboot but go into your BIOS setup before Windows
loads. Go through the BIOS screens until you find
the place where parallel and serial ports are set.
Check that the Parallel port is set for I/O port 0378,
IRQ 7. You may have to choose STD, ECP, or EPP parallel
port. (Sometimes STD or ECP/EPP or Bidirectional.) Pick
STD or Bidirectional unless you have something attached
to the computer that you know needs ECP or EPP.

When you reboot, Windows should automatically detect
the parallel port.

If it is listed in the BIOS as above but not detected
by Windows at boot, try installing it from Control Panel,
Add New Hardware. Pick from All hardware (under Ports)
instead of having Windows search for it.

If LPT1 again gets a question mark (or exclamation point)
in Device Manager, you must have a resource conflict
that happened because Windows reassigned resources
differently when the new BIOS was installed. You'll have
to juggle resources in Device Manager to free up IRQ 7.
Ask for more help if necessary!

Regards,
Bill
