Performance of a drive depends on the drive mechanism as well as the device
driver software. It is possible that the Max-Blast software may be slowing
things down. Since I am not familiar with Max-Blast, and you did not state
what OS you are using, I cannot give you a definitive answer. Try to
partition the drive into four 4G partitions using FDISK and then format them
using the OS format routine. This will bypass any interface software that
Max-Blast may have. See if that speeds things up.

I put this question in a few days ago but didn't receive any response.
I have a HPpavilion4440 with a 4.3 gig hard drive. Have purchased and
installed a Maxtor 20gig.
Formatted using the Max-Blast software that came with the drive.
Am finding that the new drive seems to run a lot slower than my original
even tho it is rated at 7200rpm.
