My daughter has exhibited the EXACT same symptoms with soy and tomato, and
also rice and orange juice (but not oranges themselves). She is also HIGHLY
allergic to milk and nuts - with anaphylactic reactions that landed us in
the ER numerous times. We had her RAST tested for all of them. She tested
VERY HIGHLY positive to the milk and the nuts, but nothing on any of the
others.
Our allergist said we could try skin tests in the Spring, but that we might
get the same results. He said in such young kids there is a high incidence
of false negatives with both kinds of tests. Obviously she is having
reactions to these things. (We did food journaling and elimination and
return to her diet, and it is very clear that these are the culprits.) He
said since she is obviously having reactions to them, and she is obviously
not having the reactions without them, we should keep her off them.
It's really not that hard once you get used to it. And there are lots of
other places for our kids to get their nutrition.
My suggestion is to go with your gut. If she is better without them, then
don't give them to her. And if you aren't satisfied with your allergist
telling you to just feed her things that make her sick, ask for a referral
to another one.

Subject: It's not Milk allergy now what do I look for?

Katelyn, my 2 year old has had reactions to milk, soy, chocolate and now
tomatoes. I have taken her off of milk and soy and she just recently
exhibited problems with tomatoes, burn looking rashes on anywhere it
contacted the skin and diarrhea. Her symptoms with milk and soy have been
a
face rash, frequent very loose bowel movements, complaints of tummy aches
and behavior problems. Her reactions have never been asthma like. I
finally asked our family doctor for a referral to an allergist because the
soy and tomatoes seem to develop 6 to 9 months apart and I wanted to know
if
we were headed for anymore food reactions. He did a skin prick test and
she
had a negative reaction to all three! He suggests I have her start eating
them again. Now what do I do? I'm so confused, where do I go to find out
why she is not tolerating these foods. Should I just have her eat it and
will the symptoms go away? I don't want her to miss out on the nutrition
of
these foods if she can eat them.

I really felt like I was making progress until this happened. It is so
discouraging to know your child is suffering but not know why. Sorry but
I'm kinda in the dumps now. Any help, ideas would be welcome.
