Ah, the PA Update. As PA members should be post this to BP or keep it a
mafia perq? Got the email, just didn't get a chance to read it. Hadn't heard
about Placzek. He had retired by the time I made it to Columbia, but was
still a presence in the Library. Fitch had also retired before my tenure in
the Heights (Morningside, that is), but was active at BBB and in PA events.
The latter until very recently. It was always a great pleasure to hear him
speak. They will both be missed.

As for living history, I am probably a good candidate for the mid-1980s
casual. I find the colonial- to Civil War-era garb a bit too itchy and
constricting. (Just a _little_ humor for a grey day. Ralph, sit.)

Derek,

Not getting your PA Update? Word about Fitch came out to alumni this
morning. (Placzek passed away weekend of March 18/19.) There will be a
ceremony in memory of Plazcek on Monday, April 17, 5:00 PM at Avery Library.
No plans yet for a memorial to Fitch, but expect more on that soon. Both
are fondly remembered from my days at CU. Times like this remind me that we
are not just preserving history -- we're living it.

Bruce
